Dr. Sandra J. Downey
Dr. Sandra J. Downey holds a B.S. degree in Chemical Engineering and a M.S. and Ph.D. in Metallurgy, specializing in corrosion. Dr. Downey has extensive knowledge in the areas of atmospheric corrosion, inhibitor research, metallic and non-metallic coatings for corrosion control, formicary corrosion, material selection and qualification and failure analysis. Dr. Downey has had patents issued in the area of inhibitors for use in cooling equipment and novel methods of protecting HVAC equipment from galvanic corrosion. She has several patents pending on a method for protecting against formicary corrosion. Dr. Downey has published papers in the areas of battery corrosion as related to shelf life, inhibitors, coatings and the use of electrochemical methods.
